Don't Slip on MY Soap

Women are creatures of habit. We like our routines and cherish the small things in life. The smallest, thoughtful acts can make a dramatic impact and the small neglected ones can make US dramatic. When is it appropriate to speak out? These types of questions come up a lot in life and in an industry like Public Relations, things tend to get a little dramatic (of course, not at Pretzel). Take this scenario.

You live a busy life. You barely have time to complete a thought, let alone free time for yourself. All you want to do is wake up in the morning, eat a good breakfast, work out, shower, make it to work, have a productive day, come home, have dinner, watch a movie with a glass of wine, and do it all again tomorrow. What happens when a small mishap occurs and this routine is disrupted?

I heard a story the other day that made me laugh and got my creative juices flowing. A friend had the motivation and drive to go to the gym before work. She wanted to get in a quick work out to start her day off in the right direction. Unfortunately, she had to go straight to work, but is accustomed to this routine and brought along the appropriate materials: gym clothes, work clothes, shampoo, conditioner, razor, and of course body wash. Mind you, us girls love to dabble in new stocks of interesting products, but when duty calls, we bring our own.

She had an amazing work out and was feeling great, so it was time to hit the shower. She entered the locker room and was pleased to see that one out of the four showers was available. As she stepped into the stark white stall, turned on the hot water, she set her products out for use: shampoo, condition, and body wash. She jumped in for a quick rinse and immediately realized she had forgotten her razor in her bag. Having brought a skirt to wear to work that day, she was not the slightest bit interested in exposing her office to such disarray especially with her "on the market" dating status. She coyly stepped out, grabbed the goods from her locker in the adjacent room (towel on of course) and rushed back to resume her wash. After shampooing and thoroughly conditioning, she moved on to the next stage of cleanliness-the body scrub. In complete surprise, she realized that it was not there. Let me remind you of my previous remarks of a woman's need for routine and since this had been a daily ritual for the past three months, she knew she had had it-and had brought it in the shower with her. To her astoundment, it was a case of "I like what you have better, so now it's mine" circa failed lesson on sharingg in kindergarden. Seeing as she didn't see anyone come in or out of the bathroom area, she presumed one of the women in one of the three other showers had taken it. Rule #1: Don't mess with a girl's body wash. The fact of the matter is that she would have definitely been inclined to share had the opportunity been presented. Going into another shower and taking what clearly does not belong to the gym for your own use is just weird. While I can understand that yes, body wash over soap IS that important, is it really necessary to jack the bottle from your fellow gym pal?

This is when I thought to pose this question: When is it appropriate to speak up? Although I would loved to have been a fly on the wall during her outburst interrogations-"Did someone take my Bath & Body Works Creamy Body Wash in Exotic Coconut?" sadly, but understandably, she overzealously finished up her shower in silence, exited the gym and proceeded about her day. Meanwhile, some free-loader is smelling awfully sweet.

This is when being prepared can bite. Take tomorrow off and play the day by the seat of your pants. A break from your routine could lead you down a road to Robert Frost. In PR, we often can't sweat the small stuff and most regularly don't know where the day is going to take us. Having a routine and being prepared is definitely key and without it, failure is inevitable. Sometimes, however we have to take a step back, breath in deeply and say, hey-at least we know we we weren't the soap high-jacker in this situation.

Spring Fling: A Season of Inspiration

It is sometimes difficult to get inspired when trying to revamp your wardrobe or even when you finally have that extra $50 to actually get to the mall or make a quick purchase online when your boss isn't looking. We suggest turning to the season and your environment around you to inspire the trend-setter in you! Here are some suggestions of fabulous fave's we came across and how these artistic designers may have used the season as their muse.

Longer Days = Actually Watching a Sunset

Think of all the sunsets you have seen and the beautiful rainbow sherbet-esque colors that transform the sky. This season, we are obsessed with the full leg trouser in all different colors. Pair these with a tube top or corset for a sophisticated, yet daring look. Think outside the box and wear a colorful pant!

Become a Butterfly, But Don't Ditch the Cocoon

March to early Spring is the season for butterflies to emerge from their cocoons. Invoke the colors of butterflies, its shape and even their little house, the cocoon.

A Leaf in the Wind

Those windy nights are approaching, at least in Los Angeles. Invite prints that follow the movements of the wind! You are the wind beneath my wings.

Your Inner Goddess

April's etymology is traditionally latin, however it does have some close connection with the Greek and Aphrodite, both supporting the origin of the word to mean "opening." Become a Greek goddess for the month (or the year if you are to be so bold)!

Look around, you will be surprised as to the inspirations you find right in your own backyard. Become an artist and paint your wardrobe.

Lavender-Oh So Sweet

Lavender has widely been used as an added scent to bath oils, perfumes, infusers, etc. and is one of the sweetest smelling plants that can be found in gardens as well as in the wild. We encourage you to scent your wardrobe by adding the color (which is commonly referred to as lavender) to your spring collection.

Here are some of our favorites for Spring 2011.

This skinny belt by ASOS can be the perfect addition to a buttoned long shirt dress, high waisted skirt, or jeans.

Bring in the Spring weather with this tank dress by Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent. It's the perfect ensemble for an afternoon BBQ or lunch with the girls

Add a splash of color to your bracelets with this enamel bangle set. Accessories like these are a perfect contribution to an all black sleek look.

For those chilly nights, bring this adorable cardigan along for the ride.

All shades of lavender can definitely turn some heads. Time to go shopping!

Bonjour, Stella

Hidden in the heart of Sunset Junction rounding a little side street, Cafe Stella is one of a kind. I first fell in love with French cuisine and its traditions when I stepped into Little Door. Although I still love my original stomping ground, it was refreshing to come a cross such a quaint, inviting and elegant establishment on the East Side. Although I just stopped in for a drink and a small bite, I was wishing I had the time to stay longer.

Sitting comfortably at the bar (which has hooks for your purse BTW), I initially asked if they carried chablis. The bartender declined and suggested the house Sauvignon Blanc. As all good sommeliers should know, these wines can be a bit different depending on the origins. He was bold to suggest a house in comparison to the requested chablis, but he knew what he was doing. It was buttery and smooth, not too dry, not too sweet- a nice compliment to the tuna tartare. Our app arrived and as I lightly put some tuna on a garlic, buttered crustini, I added a sliver of avacado to my bite and savoured each moment. It's creamy, flavorful light texture was mouthwatering. Sometimes tuna tartare can be a bit like spicy tuna, which I hate (I'm a wuss when it comes to spicy food); however this dish was perfect. A hint of a citrus component ended each bite with a slight tang, urging the crave to continue.

As I finished my app, I looked around and saw the crowds pouring in, adding to the exciting ambience. The adequate space allowed the noise to travel evenly throughout the restaurant, permitting me to quietly finish my glass of wine. The decor made me feel like I had just hopped into a cafe in Paris, on my way to the Louvre for a late night art inspiration.

The prices match the caliber of cuisine and attention to detail. The service does as well. As  I exited, three employees wished us a good night and hoped to see us again soon.

Pretzel will be making a field trip very soon! Until then, Au revoir

Friendly Fashion

Fashion for the unfashionable can seem a bit daunting. We have found some of our best fashion friendly ideas and inspirations to help all the fashion feared! Tell us your insights and suggestions on what makes YOU feel fashionable!

Double Up:

Try doubling your jewelry. Instead of just wearing your watch (for functional purposes), add a few bangles for some extra bling or at least a bracelet that gives the effect:

Join the Sock Hop:

Add a colorful pair of socks to your favorite Mary Janes or tennies. The punch of color will make you happy every time you look down at your toes:

A New Pair:

Try wearing a new kind of pant. We all have our favorite pair of jeans, leggings, or dressy pants. These ALICE by Temperley Cargo Trousers have a wide waist band which pretty much looks good on anyone.

In Between the Seasons:

Now a days, the weather is changing daily-all over the world! You can include some of your fave's from other seasons into this season. Today in Los Angeles, it's really warm! Bring out those summer wedges and pair them with a solid tight and a mini skirt. Add a light weight scarf in case it gets chilly.

Think outside the box! If you think you can't pull something off, try it on because you never know what could be friendly to you!! xo

Oscars: Ready or Not, Here They Come

Last night was a blast-amazing fashion, emotional wins, disastrous hosting, and all in all, a night for the King. We give you an over all breakdown of Oscar from fashion, The Fighter, friends, and faux pas.

RED RED RED...RED Carpet

Sandra Bullock looked beautiful as always, and although there were a few stars who followed suit in red, Sandra definitely looked the best. The big win, however, was her introduction to the Best Actress nominees. Thank you Sandy for providing some comedy to a show that was otherwise failing in that department.

Pre costume changes, Anne Hathaway strutted the carpet in Valentino. She looked great here as did the other attendees; however we wish she would have just enjoyed the show. The hosting by Anne and James Franco fell short and at times, didn't make sense. New campaign BBB: Bring Billy Back!

Jennifer Lawrence looked beautiful and sophisticated for her first Oscar appearance!

Michelle Williams looked stunning with her pixie cut and chic Chanel Haute Couture which is the perfect fit for her personality and figure. Her red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest was a little bizarre. It seemed that she was pulling a Madonna and had a little bit of an English accent. Also, she seemed reluctant to show her teeth??? Although she did not take home the win, she definitely is on the best dressed list.

We had to include her Vera Wang from the 2006 Oscars. Our favorite Oscar look EVER! The perfect thing about her look is that it is so her. She looks beautiful, but maintains her own style, femininity, and class.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Mila Kunis was striking from head to toe in Elie Saab. Her hair looked flawless, makeup couldn't have been better and her cool, laid back demeanor was a delight. Can we be friends???

BEST HAIR ALERT!!!
We didn't see many exciting, intricate hair do's last night, but Reese Witherspoon sure did surprise us with her gorgeous retro look. Paired with a classic black and white Giorgio Armani (which wasn't our favorite), this updo transformed the look to red carpet chic. BTW, we loved the green earrings!

We were cheering for Natalie Portman to take home the Oscar! Go Natalie! Her mommy-to-be glow was striking and her acceptance speech was perfection! Love her.

Although she looked gorgeous last night, it doesn't beat her 2009 look. I don't know if she will ever look better!! however; it's not a fair judge since there is a belly to consider :)

Amy Adams is one of our favorite actresses. She always looks beautiful with a classy, natural look. Unfortunately, the necklace over her high neckline dress ruined her 2011 Oscar look. We tried to look past it since her hair was out of a Pantene commercial and made her look so glamorous.

Gwyneth Paltrow's modern, sleek look was jaw dropping. The clean lines of the dress, her straight hair and beautiful makeup completed a look that really said "I'm not just a great actress, but much much more." Unfortunately, her musical performance was hard to watch. Not only did she not sound great, her facial expressions showed her nervousness and possible insecurities. With a little more practice, maybe a come back performance will be in the future.

To conclude our highlights, let us introduce you to James Franco..the 2011 Academy Awards host. WTF? He didn't care.

VANITY FAIR PARTY

Lea Michelle: Although we have heard rumors that she is a Diva (not in a good way), she looked
A-MAZING. Love this look. GLAM!

ELTON JOHN'S PARTY

Emma Roberts gets the best dressed at this one! She looks so beautiful.

WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!
